Who is Nancy Pelosi
Nancy Pelosi was born on the 26th March 1940, into a political family and was first elected to Congress in 1987, subsequently completing 17 terms as of 2019. The American politician has served as the Speaker of the House of Representatives multiple times, including from 2007-2011 and from 2019 onwards, making her the only woman to hold this position and the highest elected female in US history.
Her political career has included leading the House Democrats, House minority leader and the previously mentioned Speaker role. Notable events include her opposition to the Iraq war and the Republican efforts to privatise parts of the Social Security system. Pelosi has also helped to pass many bills including the Affordable Care Act and the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act.
