Who is Will Rogers

William P A Rogers (Widely known as Will Rogers) was born on the 4th November 1879 and died 15th August 1935. He was a man of many talents, including at one time being the highest-paid film star in Hollywood in the years preceding his death. His stage and film acting career were combined with being a humorist, social commentator and newspaper columnist, including a syndicated column and radio show that mean he became a household name across the country.

Rogers travelled extensively around the United States and the world, being a keen aviator, which is ultimately how he died, in a small aircraft accident in Alaska in 1935. His was a prolific writer of humour, political satire and personal accounts of his travels, racking up over 70 films, and contributed to more than 4000 newspaper columns.

Perhaps unique to Will Rogers was his personal and folksy style, allowing him to touch on controversial and potentially dangerous topics, including politics, prohibition and gangsters.
