It is Difficult To Free Fools From The Chains They Revere
1.Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.
2.Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
3.At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.
4.I would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to be free… so other people would be also free.
5.There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires.
6.Necessity is blind until it becomes conscious. Freedom is the consciousness of necessity.
7.Liberty has never come from Government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of limitations of governmental power, not the increase of it.
8.Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves; and under the rule of a just God, cannot long retain it.
9.Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.
10.No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.
11.Free people, remember this maxim: we may acquire liberty, but it is never recovered if it is once lost.
12.Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.
13.The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the goverment.
14.The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask.
